Dangermuffin: The Name Says It All
In the corporate world of music filled with artists who strategically form a particular image or focus on how their band can grow in popularity, Dangermuffin stands apart from their peers. Lead singer/guitarist, Dan Lotti, explains their unique name as a means of not taking anything too seriously, a theme that pertains to their music and style of living. Lotti explains that they play music because it is “who they are.” They play music because it is what they enjoy and remain perfectly content and grateful for whatever level of popularity they reach. The members of Dangermuffin live self-proclaimed “hippie” lifestyles, maintaining a vegan diet, gaining musical inspiration through the natural world, and singing about enjoying life and being happy.
Lotti explain that Dangermuffin acquires “their own voice” through the eclectic blend of music they enjoy playing. He explains their lifestyle, as well as their music, as consistently casual. Dangermuffin’s music reflects a roots or folk style, but all genres are welcome as they draw influence from a wide range of artists including Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Sublime. After only a few minutes of conversation with Dan Lotti, it is apparent that their success does not depend on their audience, but by the enjoyment that playing their music brings them.
